Can Women Have it All?

I am no authority on women, I’ve just been one all my life. I have sister friends all over the country. No matter, our age, marital status, children or not, we ALL have one struggle in common. Balancing it all! How do you do it? How do you maintain, the house, the children, the spouse, the job, going to school, running the business, dating, make girlfriend time, have a hobby, work out, and most of all have- ME time???

I was talking to a girlfriend the other day, who is a powerhouse woman at a major corporation. She had 6 meetings that day, needed to stop and get her son a new pair of sneakers, stop by her mom’s house because she promised, and then get home to prepare dinner. She made me tired, explaining it to me. I cautioned her to “Do what you can girlfriend” and she agreed, with hesitation.

As women, we are most of the time, holding it together for the family, and when we get that one slither of a minute for our selves we feel guilty. Why is that? Because as women, we feel like we have to be there for everybody! THAT IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH. Ladies, trust someone to be there for you. Things can still get done, maybe not to our satisfaction, but it will get done! Empower your husbands, significant others, and our children to do things on our behalf.

We have forgone romance to follow our dreams, we have left our jobs to start our family, we have by passed job opportunities because it didn’t fit our lifestyle.

I’ve had the opportunity to speak to a few women, who were entrepreneurs, C-Level executives, women who were bread- winners, and single women. Here are a few things I found to be consistent across the board. As we seek work life balance, here are a few things to consider.

1. Delegate certain  things that you can to someone else. I realize that may come with a price that not everyone can afford.( house cleaner, chef etc.) In this instance, delegate to a family member, a young adult child or a friend. Grocery shopping, select errands, etc.

2. Prioritize what is important to you. If you have children, you may not want to attend every after work function. Maybe you, decide to end all meetings at a certain time so you can get home to enjoy dinner with the family. Be clear on your three top priorities, family, not traveling away from home on business for more than x number of days, date night with the spouse on certain days etc.

3. Time management. Schedule accordingly and organize your time with a schedule. Allow down time between meetings if you can, or block times that you don’t want to have meetings so you can work on open action items, and return calls.

4. Unplug and unwind, meditate and pray. Turn of the cell phone, the computer and all social media. Meditate, journal, relax, work out, take a hot bath. Take 1 hour DAILY for you NO interruptions. In my house we refer to it as NBA-time. NO BOYS ALLOWED! My husband and my 4 year old- Homee- gives me my space, and my bedroom is off-limits until- I emerge refueled and inspired.

Ladies, the question remains a topic amongst many. Can women have it all? I believe YES, we can with support, love and prayer ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
